First Clean Eatz opens up Delaware with healthy eat-in or to-go
On a trip to their son’s hockey tournament in Ohio, Andrea and Ryan Maloney took a chance on a restaurant they had never visited. They liked it so much that they decided to start their own.
In September, they opened the first Clean Eatz in Delaware at 1128 Forrest Ave., unit C, Dover, next to Dunkin, across from the Modern Maturity Center.
On that hockey trip, Andrea said they were tired of eating at the same places and wanted healthier options, so she searched for “clean food” online.
“Pure Eatz came up and we thought it was a great idea,” said Andrea.
“It wasn’t just salads,” Ryan said. “Our son found something he really liked.”
The Maloneys researched the company and arranged a visit for interested franchisees.
“We got to sit down with the founders, and that was impressive. You could tell their hearts were in it and their values aligned with ours,” Ryan said.
The company’s motto is, “We change lives.”
“We saw testimonials from people whose lives had improved by following the Clean Eatz meal plan,” Ryan said. “They were reduced. They were able to get off their medication. It really makes you think that the problem is the problem, but with change it can be the solution. ”
The Maloneys understand how a busy lifestyle can lead to unhealthy eating habits. Andrea works 12-hour shifts in the radiology department at the hospital. Ryan is a lineman for an electric company and may have to respond to emergencies day or night. Their son and daughter are involved in school and sports.
That’s why Clean Eatz made sense to them – a place that offers healthy meals to eat in or take out, and also offers weekly plans with freshly made frozen meals. You can take packaged food home and know you have it whenever you need it.
The company also sponsors a “We Change Livez Challenge” for people who make significant progress toward their health goals, with prizes ranging from 12 weeks of free food to $25,000.

What’s on the list?
Clean Eatz has 119 restaurants in 24 states with a menu that includes wraps, flatbreads, build-your-own bowls, protein smoothies and coffee, cauliflower crust pizza and burgers with turkey, bison, salmon or black beans. They also make their own desserts with a protein kick.
Almost everything is made fresh in the restaurant. Takeout meals are made fresh and frozen with instructions to thaw or reheat.
“We don’t fry. We don’t cook with oil,” said Andrea.
Food packages list the calories, protein, fat and carbohydrates in each food item.
“Everything is measured in healthy portions,” Ryan said.
So far the best sellers have been salmon wraps and bison burgers, as well as bowls where you can choose your base like brown rice or whole grain pasta, with protein like chicken, fish or beans, along with vegetables and sauces.
“Smoothies are selling like crazy,” Andrea said.

Pure Eatz is open Monday to Friday from 11am to 7pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3pm.
Meal plans offer a discount for larger orders. For example, up to nine meals are $8.65 each, but 10 to 14 meals are $7.70 and 15 to 20 meals are $7.35 each.
Many people like to order their meal plan and pay online so they are ready to go when they arrive.
Hard work and rewards
For Andrea and Ryan, running a restaurant is new, and it’s still hectic with all the planning, permits, purchasing and leasing.
Andrea said: “It was really humbling to jump into the business. “It is a baptism of fire. It takes a lot of time and dedication, but with the staff we have and our supportive family, it all comes together. We have a great team here. ”
He said the positive feedback was encouraging.
Andrea said: “It’s great to see so many people come in and say they’re glad we’re here, that they need good health practices.
On October 4, customers Brenda and David Jaffe said they had spent most of the day in Dover and were looking for a place to eat on their way home to Maryland.
“I looked up ‘healthy foods near me’ online and Clean Eatz came up,” said Brenda. We had never heard of it. I’m not a meat eater but I try to eat more vegetables than meat, so we thought we’d give it a try.”
He said he was impressed with the food and the concept of the restaurant.
David agreed: “This is great. This is a very tasty meal and a great idea. ”
